Only Joanna Lumley can dress in diaphanous white, go out in the sweaty Egyptian heat & still look glitzy, unfazed & not even “glowing”. Wish I knew how she managed it…my Egyptian look is completely different…Good first prog, looking forward to the rest.

I thought it was marvellous and I’m already looking forward to the remaining programms.I have been to some of the places Joanna visited and long to return.

The program had a lot of promise, bur ended up being a vehicle for a pretentious individual in front of as many backdrops as possible. It was summed up by the tedious asking of various locals what there name was to make them supposedly feel important, but appeared incredibly patronising.
Will not watch it again. Jamie Oliver in Marrakech brilliant!

To Much Jonna Lumley not enough Nile content

Was really looking forward to this adventure. What a disappointment it was. I thought it was supposed to be educational and would show you what Egypt was like but she could have been anywhere! It was interesting that you could see the “Colossus of Memnon on the West Bank” from the train! All we saw was a trip on a camel, train, boat and drinking in bars. Will not be watching any more of the series.

I wasn’t sure about watching the programme, but actually I found I loved it once I had got over the idea thaty I would actually learn more about the places Joanna visited. Yes, she did go on rather about ‘making friends’ with all and sundry (but she was human, and mde me realise what an oik I was curling up in embarrasment about the ghastly ship entertainments which I hated). However I shall certainly be watching again.

We’ve done a bit of research and found the name of the cruise ship company that Joanna Lumley travels with in this documentary is Presidential Nile Cruises, a company that we deal with here at Audley.
We have a page on our main site about their cruise ships if you would like to take a look – http://www.audleytravel.com/Destinations/North-Africa-and-The-Middle-East/Egypt/Accommodation/MS-Presidential-Nile-Cruise-Ship.aspx
Thanks

Here in Canada the series is just airing now. I have to say that in light of the recent peaceful revolution in Egypt we are watching this amazing program on the source of the Nile hoping that those who have not made this trip will have an opportunity in the very near future. In January 2010 my husband & I fulfilled a lifelong dream to finally visit Egypt. We had done loads of research before we embarked on our trip but nothing could have prepared us for the awesome sights of this amazing country ….Cruising down Lake Nasser, the contrast as we sailed down the Nile, the many temples and most of all the amazing people we met, many of which we now call friends. Our day to day contact since our return through the social network has melted away distances we once knew, & kept us in contact in recent weeks of unrest. My husband kept a day to day diary of our trip and created a blog on our return. We were thrilled to watch this wonderful journey that Ms. Lumley took(with tears in my eyes) and her amazing stamina in area’s of the Sudan and beyond. Proud to still call myself a Brit’ living here in Canada I am so happy that this series was aired across the pond! Wish we had been along for the ride.
