Historic Nile cruise route from Cairo to Aswan re-opens

The Sun Boat III

The Sun Boat III

Closed to the public for over 15 years, the historic Nile cruising route from Cairo to Aswan in Egypt has now re-opened, with selected cruise boats starting to sail along this section of the Nile this summer.

Chief amongst these is Sanctuary Cruises newly acquired Sun Boat III, one of our favourite options along the Nile offering an intimate atmosphere and wonderful personalised service. The cruise offers the chance to see an unprecedented array of Egypt’s ancient wonders, many of which have been hidden from view for over a decade.

As well as the usual sights in Luxor and Aswan, additional highlights along this re-opened stretch of the river include the ruins of Tuna el-Gebel, which is the resting place for thousands of mummies of falcons, baboons and ibises, 2000-year-old rock tombs and the white limestone temple at Abydos, the centre of a holy city dedicated to Osiris, Lord of the Netherworld.

This is a superb opportunity to rediscover some of Egypt’s lost treasures and with the lower than usual numbers of tourists should prove a wonderful experience.
