Last Wednesday night the New Mill became a hauntingly good venue for ghost tours with Oxford’s very own Bill Spectre. Audley staff were treated to spooky tales of the Mill’s tragic past and some mysterious magic was thrown in for good measure.
A pumpkin carving competition, bonfire and hot soup kept everyone entertained, along with a special screening of the horror movie ‘Woman in Black’. A total of £197 was raised which will be donated to the Highgate Cemetery where some famous occupants now reside including Karl Marx.
A mill was recorded as existing on the site of our New Mill offices in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The ghost of a previous owner – Edmund Wright – is said to haunt the building after he was crushed by the water wheel in the river below the building, used to power the machinery to produce wool. You can find out more about the history of our offices in Shaun’s blog.
