2016 Audley Charity of the Year announced

We Day UK 2015

Free the Children has been chosen by staff as the Audley Charity of the Year for 2016.

For two weeks in February collection boxes were placed in all three offices for the three charities shortlisted by staff. Free the Children received most of the donations, and the rest of the money collected will go to Médecins Sans Frontières and Care International. Most of the money raised by our fundraising events this year will go directly to the charity.

Who is Free the Children?

Free the Children was set up by a group of twelve-year-olds in an ordinary school in Toronto over 20 years ago, who having learned about child slavery resolved to do something about it. Brothers Craig and Marc Kielburger are co-founders of the family of organizations leading social change: Free The Children, an international charity; ME to WE, an innovative social enterprise; and WE Day, a year-long educational initiative that culminates in a signature youth empowerment event.

There are now development projects running in eight different countries and millions of young people are actively involved in 5,500 Canadian, 1,550 US and over 1,000 UK schools. We Day has arrived in California and Minnesota and the second UK event takes place tomorrow.

From absolutely nothing, over 650 schools and school buildings have been built, 30,000 women are now economically self-sufficient and over one million people have been provided with clean water, healthcare and sanitation.

You can find out more about how Craig Burkinshaw, Audley’s Founder, got involved with Free the Children on our main website.
