On friday afternoon I popped along to another of our client seminars, ‘Himalayan Treasures’, which was presented by Chris Moore from our North and Central Asia department, and Camilla Brent-Smith and Iona Laing from our Indian Subcontinent team.

Grapes in the Hawkes Bay area of New Zealand.
The summer season of client seminars kicked off on Friday 12th June with a presentation by some of Audley’s Australasia specialists. ‘Wildlife, Walking and Wines’ covered both Australia and New Zealand and was attended by 18 Audley clients.

The Great Barrier Reef, Australia.
We’ve just received a note from our friends at Voyages Heron Island on the Barrier Reef about their first sighting of humpback whales this season…
Give us your smellies!

North & Central Asia's Henrietta and Jo have been collecting toiletries for The Christina Noble Children's Charity in Mongolia.
Doing your bit for charity doesn’t always have to involve raising money and this week the North and Central Asia department here at Audley have come up with an ingenious way of supporting a children’s charity in Mongolia.
BBC2’s ‘Working Lunch’ visits Audley.
On Friday 17th April 2009 the Audley offices were visited by a small production crew and presenter, Naga Munchetty, who were here to film for the BBC2 programme, ’Working Lunch’. With the subject of discussion being ‘pleasant working environments’, what better place to visit than Audley, where our staff allotments, gym and free range chickens are all part of the normal working day!
http://audley-video.s3.amazonaws.com/blog/workinglunch-proper-edit.flvOur managing director, Craig Burkinshaw and Japan and China Specialist, Ben Colbridge were both interviewed by Naga as she made her way around the building, but we were all keen to watch the programme when it aired, hungry for our five minutes of fame!
The programme aired at 12:30, 21st April 2009 on BBC2.
Dan Snow in New Zealand with Audley

Dan Snow meets Hone Mihaka
As part of our prize for winning ‘Supreme Operator of the Year’ from Tourism New Zealand, we were invited to host a trip to New Zealand for historian and TV presenter Dan Snow. Dan visited New Zealand in January 2009 and as a first-time visitor to the country our specialists wanted to ensure they included a number of activities and variety of scenery for him to enjoy.
From learing about Maori culture in Northland to following in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary in Mount Cook National Park, Dan’s trip was jam-packed with exciting things to do and experience.
This week I have added a feature to the Audley website about Dan’s trip. ‘Dan Snow Visits New Zealand‘ includes details on how our specialist’s organised Dan’s trip, an interactive map that highlights just a few of the experiences Dan took part in, five short video clips filmed during Dan’s trip and a sample itinerary. This was a really interesting feature to build and one that I enjoyed a lot – I hope you feel the same once you have a read through!

New Zealand seminar at Audley

Arthur's Pass, New Zealand
On friday I attended the ‘Seasons of New Zealand’ client seminar which was presented by members of the New Zealand team here at Audley. The seminar aimed to show New Zealand as a year-round destination by highlighting just a few of the attractions available throughout the various seasons.
It is generally considered that the best to visit New Zealand is during their summer (December to February), however, as I, and 20 other people discovered there are some real benefits to visiting during spring, autumn and winter, a few of which I have detailed below:
Japan Season on BBC4

Hidden Japan season on BBC4
Last Monday (16th March 2009) marked the beginning of BBC4’s ‘Hidden Japan’ season. A month-long focus on all things Japanese the season kicked off with Marcel Theroux’s ‘In Search of Wabi Sabi’, one of three films which form the centrepiece for numerous other documentaries, animations and dramas.
Red Nose Day at Audley

Julie and Lucy collecting for Comic Relief
Giving staff the opportunity to dress down for the day was the ideal way for Audley to get involved in Comic Relief this year.
As a company we are always keen to take part in worthwhile fundraising events and after blubbering three times last night during BBC1’s ‘Kilimanjaro: The Big Red Nose Climb’, I was pleased to see Julie Draper, Audley’s Reservations Administration Team Leader and Lucy Gardiner, our Operations Manager wandering around with a Comic Relief bucket collecting money for this inspiring cause.
With everyone digging deep into their pockets Audley was able to raise a total of £275.19 for Comic Relief this year, which equates to 55 much needed mosquito nets. A brilliant effort for a brilliant cause!

‘Shah ‘Abbas: The remaking of Iran’ is a brand new feature that I have just added to the Iran section of our website. The feature focuses on an exhibition currently running at the British Museum with the same name. Shah ’Abbas: The remaking of Iran is the third major exhibition in a series by the British Museum that focuses on great rulers and is running until 14th June 2009.
