Tonight at 8pm on BBC2 is the first in a series of programmes which sees the chef Rick Stein undertake an epic culinary journey by river, sea and overland to discover the diverse food cultures of the Far East.
“I’m here to discover not just the food,” Stein promises, “but what makes places like Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam tick. What’s so special about Bali, Sri Lanka, Malaysia or Bangladesh? Well – the food of course. But beyond that it’s the people. People talking about food…”.

Audley seminar: Wildlife of the Indian Subcontinent

Tiger in Ranthambhore National Park
Today I went to the Audley seminar on ‘Wildlife of the Indian Subcontinent’. I must confess I have a big vested interest here as I was lucky enough to get to travel to India with Audley last May and one of the highlights of my trip was visiting Ranthambhore where my sister and I were really fortunate in seeing 8 tigers! Incredible and everyone kept on telling us we had been very lucky! We also saw lots of other amazing wildlife. I also work on the Indian Subcontinent on the website so am always interested in finding out more about this fascinating area of the world.

The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency on the BBC
Last night I enjoyed watching the first programme in a new 6 part BBC series of Alexander McCall Smith’s bestseller, ‘The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’. This series comes after the 2008 film based on the novel and follows the exploits of Botswana’s only lady detective, Mma Ramotswe who is based in Gabarone.
If you missed the programme you can watch it again on BBC iPlayer.
If you would like to visit the places that inspired Alexander McCall Smith we have an itinerary that we have designed to enable you to do just that!
Audley Seminar: Wildlife of Canada, Alaska & the Arctic

Polar bear in fireweed in Churchill
On Friday I attended another of the travel seminars. This week’s subject was ‘Wildlife of Canada, Alaska & the Arctic’ run by some of the Canada, Alaska & the Arctic Specialists at Audley. I’m fascinated by wildlife and was lucky enough to visit India last year on a work trip and had the thrilling experience of seeing tigers in the wild in Ranthambhore. An experience that will live with me for ever! I have also had the good fortune to go on an Antarctic cruise with Audley and the prolific wildlife I saw then was also similarly memorable. I haven’t yet managed to see the fascinating wildlife in Canada, Alaska & the Arctic though and was very keen to find out more!
